In the past, my plan as a private tutor

always lead me to meet with the

student in their home so it would be

easiest and most comfortable learning

environment for them.  When

planning out this new endeavor, I

tried to recreate this same plan.  

Because students would need to travel

to a centralized location, my options

were to make multiple appointments

at a library conference room, pay a

very high fee for community use and

use a local school, or start a home

based business.  Community use 

fees are extremely high (over $100/hour) so this option was

cost prohibitive.  In the past I have attempted to arrange for

library space, but the limited hours and unpredictable availability

of space made this option unfeasible.

This lead me to the conclusion that the best option would be to 

convert the lower level of my home into a converted classroom.   

The 900  square foot area now has a large 8' long whiteboard (that 

will be interactive (much like the Smartboard and Promethean 

Boards), 10 individual classroom desks and chairs that can be 

separated into even rows or brought together into groups of 2 or 4 

with ease, an LCD projector, and an overhead projector.  All of the 

elements listed will allow the converted classroom to operate with 

the efficiency of a high school classroom with the welcoming feel of

the home environment.
